About Us and Our Aims

The International Alliance for Appreciative Inquiry (IAAI)

Introduction and Aims

The Alliance formed in 2021.

It emerged from a shared desire of its partners to offer strengths-based solutions following a common framework, aimed at English, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese speaking regions.

The founding members saw an opportunity to unite to form an entity that guarantees that our services and training are proven in different countries and communities.

We believe this approach increases the probability that successful results and sustainable positive changes will follow on after people or organisations experiment with Appreciative Inquiry approaches.

The alliance aims to raise awareness of and make the benefits of Appreciative Inquiry (Ai) accessible to all. We hope to increase the use of Ai approaches in all types of organisations by:

  • Offering online and face to face accredited training programmes.
  • Supporting communities of Ai practice to form and become self-sustaining.
  • Providing external advice and coaching to organisations using Ai tools and techniques to support organisational development and performance improvement projects.
  • Act as a Thinking Partner for individuals and/or groups who wish to explore particular issues from an appreciative (strength-based) perspective.

Who are the International Alliance for Appreciative Inquiry (IAAI)?

We are a new partnership between Appreciative Inquiry (Ai) practitioners from around the world. All IAAI partners aim to:

  • Develop and expand the use of Appreciative Inquiry to improve public and 3rd sector services both in UK and wider afield
  • Improve Ai training and development opportunities, and
  • Provide peer support opportunities for individuals and organisations that see the potential to use Ai based approaches to improve performance

The alliance is a natural evolution of the long-standing association of the alliance partners who regularly work together, and support each other, whilst retaining their separate brand identities. All IAAI partners have:

  • A strong belief in the value of Ai approaches
  • Staff trained by leading European development organisations for Appreciative Inquiry such as the Lincoln Workshop Series
  • Deep and broad experience in using Ai principles and techniques
  • Access to the training and development experience of Appreciating People and their experience in developing publications (e.g. guides to asset-based working and workbooks). This is complemented by Alder Advice’s experience as advisers on organisational learning, improvement, and transformation
